“Going Nuts” Expedition

SERIES ONE . 1948 – 2019 . 71 YEARS

From KRUGER to KONGWA..and back! – 2 Land Rover nuts, 2 classic Land Rovers, 6 Countries, 9000km, 1 Month…..Can it be done?” Celebrating 71 years of Land Rovers in Africa, Car no. R8664866, a rare 1949 model and it’s young brother, a 1955 model will set off from Hazyview in Mpumalanga on an epic 1 month journey to Kongwa in Tanzania and back.

Why Kongwa??

To revisit the spot where the Brits tried to grow groundnuts in Tanganyika between 1947 and 1951 and where 4 pre-production Land Rovers were sent to for evaluation and testing in 1948 before being signed off for production. The project was a costly failure… but clearly, the Land Rovers passed!

“It’s a dangerous thing, old age. Not only for vehicles, but for people too.
At only marginally fewer years than our nearly 70 year old vehicles, and with marginally fewer than that number of whiskies under our belts, grand thoughts of adventure and daring do start percolating in our addled brains…”
